Workout: Biggest Loser Bootcamp
Time: 30:00
Weight: 124.6
Bob Harper is going to make my thighs as hard as rocks. Ouch.
Got my three BL dvds in the mail yesterday and was pretty excited. Today was a regularly scheduled yoga morning, but I was too excited to try my new videos. I had no idea what to expect and I'm glad I chose the bootcamp for today because its not a huge cardio workout (although it did get my heartrate up for the entire 30 minutes)... its more of a strength/toning workout - a lot of lunges, squats, and upper body strength moves done at a quick pace and/or at the same time (upper and lower body together) in order to increase calorie burn & fat burn. There were some brief cardio bursts in there - and my heart rate was already slightly elevated. Its a great workout. I didn't add the 2nd or 3rd workouts yet, which is another really nice feature - the ability to customize the workout. All in all I'm very, very happy with it.
I've been doing well with being consistent this week. Tuesday I did Jillian Michaels' Yoga Meltdown and wanted to jump into the tv and punch her. Yesterday I did Tae Bo again.
I'm also tracking my calories on myfitnesspal.com. This is such a user friendly site - I love it! All of my aldi foods have been added in already by someone else, so I'm not constantly having to add my generic food nutritional values, which takes a lot of time. It also accounts for the calories I burn that day - so on a non exercise day I should have 1260 calories (in order to lose .9 lbs/week). But on an exercise day it adds in my calories - so today I have 1486... that was something that I really didn't like about sparkpeople. They had you fill in how much you thought you would exercise and then averaged it out... just never thought they came up with a good number for me and I think I was right because running burns a lot more calories than these videos and I wasn't getting many more daily calories on spark people than I am now.
ANYWAYS... I feel good about my consistency and my workouts. I don't feel the same as when I run - which I feel good about all day - but this is what I need to do for now and its good.
I'm not sleeping well this week and am wondering if it has to do with my cycle - I recently read that hormones can affect a woman in this way. I'm going to start tracking things because this is driving me absolutely batty.

Workout: 20 minutes cross + weights
Weight: 125.0
Ahhh - as much as I don't care about the actual number, I am getting pretty sick of the drastic fluctuation in my weight everyday. Yesterday I was 123.0, today 125.0. I just wish a number would stick.
I decided to try working out in the afternoon today so I could get some more sleep in the morning. Getting up at 4:45 every morning is getting to be a drag - especially with the mileage that I'm running. I feel like I'm constantly tired. And we're going to bed earlier and earlier. Its getting a little crazy - going to bed at 9:15 makes for not a whole lot of evening together after the girls go to bed at 8 - or after 8 like last night.
Working out in the afternoon was much different. Observations:
* I slept until 7am and woke up feeling like ass - like I needed 3 more hours of sleep, like I had been woken up in the middle of deep, deep sleep. Felt much worse than waking up at 4:45.
* I tooled around in my pajamas all morning because I saw no sense in taking a shower and getting dressed just to do it all again after working out. I hate that process, so I don't want to do it twice. Felt a little frumpish because of it. I might stay in my pjs all day on Sunday, but I don't plan to be productive on Sunday anyway.
* I did the cross training much harder than I normally do on Tue or Fri mornings. Usually I take it pretty easy and am probably lucky to get my heart rate up to 130 and break a small sweat. Today my heart rate was 160, I was breathing heavy and pouring sweat (did the eliptical at level 10). This also made the weight lifting portion more sweaty.
* Because I was working out during my time during the day without the girls, I was in a hurry. I wasn't in a hurry to skip portions of my workout, but I wasn't wasting any time either. I took a quick shower and came home. No dawdling for me. Got there at 12:30 and was out by 1:40.
* Just because I chose to go to the gym later in the day didn't mean that all of the people I normally see at the gym chose to do the same. Somehow their days went on as normal:) It was a completely different group of people and I somewhat felt like I was intruding on their territory.
* A lot more guys in the afternoon than in the morning.
* A lot of people were on their cell phones. This continues to amaze me - that people actually try to workout and talk on the cell phone at the same time - or text. In MY opinion, they are not committed to a real workout, because you just can't do both - not to the extent that you really should. I saw one woman doing the stairmill with the phone cradled between her shoulder & her ear. The stairmill was moving slower than I thought could be possible - like as slow as if I was just standing on it while it was stopped and through sheer force of gravity it moved down a level. What is that? Why in the world is this woman wasting her time? And it was the entire time - it wasn't like a 5 minute break.
* People who can run 8:30 miles are my heroes. People who can run 5.5 miles at an 8:30 pace are even more of my heroes. And people who can run 5.5 miles at an 8:30 pace, hardly have a drop of sweat on their shirts and not look AT.ALL like they could even run a mile are running goddesses.
I took some naproxen for my ankle yesterday and this morning. Its feeling much better.
Workout - 20 minutes on the eliptical. Heart rate was at 158/161, went over 3 miles, burned 288 calories. Weights: glutes, quads, hams, calves, back, tris.
Good, good workout. I will probably do this more often.

Weight: 124.0
Workout: 20:00 cross, lower body + back + tris
I only did 8 minutes of cross training on the eliptical this morning. I overslept and got to the gym later than I like to, so I cut out the cross and just did the weights. I finished lifting earlier than usual and the eliptical next to C was open so I finished out her workout with her.
I didn't feel great about it, but I'm okay. I have very high expectations for myself and while I don't get worked up about not losing a certain amount of weight or running at a certain speed, I do expect that I won't miss workouts. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation and I get ticked at myself when I miss workouts. I'm glad I got at least the 8 minutes in, but even that seems like a waste.
Eating was good yesterday. I ate lots of vegetables throughout the day - zucchini, cauliflower, green peppers, red peppers, grape tomatoes, frozen mixed veggies. Its always a good thing to have that stuff so easily accessible and with my Plant First thinking I grab a plate of them before I eat lunch and have some with my dinner. I LOVE salads, but I despise making them - unless its a huge salad for many people to enjoy at dinner - so having a salad every night is not going to happen - unless I eat at Corner Bakery every single night:) I could make a big bowl of salad on Sunday, but I don't think it would be good for the whole week. As long as I have these veggies available as my appetizers I think I'm good. I may revisit the salad idea though.
I also drank a lot of water. I lost count, but I know it was up near 9 or 10 16oz glasses. And the scale showed the difference this morning.
One thing that I love about working out is that I sleep so well. Unless one of the girls is crying or the dumb dog flips his water dish, or we have a weird, out of the ordinary earthquake, I don't wake up during the night. I probably don't get as much sleep as I should - usually 6 1/2 - 7 hours. I try to be in bed around 10 and lights out by 10:15. The olympics severely alters that though, which is why I over-snoozed this morning (and I didn't even stay awake for the final figure skating pairs - the gold medalists).
Prior to working out I would wake a couple of times during the night and have a lot of trouble falling back to sleep. Sometimes it would take an hour or more before I finally fell back to sleep - and the worst times were when I would finally drift off about 30 minutes before the alarm went off. Felt horrible and always felt like I should have just gotten up instead of going back to sleep. I do not have any of these issues when I workout - I fall asleep almost immediately when I roll over and if I wake up during the night I fall back to sleep right away. THIS is worth every mile I run. If I never lose another pound or gain some of my weight back, I will still always make working out a priority because I never want to get back into that crazy sleep cycle again - its miserable.
