STC - C2W4D23

Summer Tracker Challenge
Beginning Date: July 16, 2007
Ending Date: October 7, 2007

Workout: UBWO

I killed it in my ubwo this morning. I overestimated many of my weights so I ended up definitely reaching 10's and total fatigue, but I wasn't able to get all 12 reps out on some of them. My arms are tired and burning. I feel really good about the exercises and the amount of work I'm doing with them. I ate 100% yesterday and drank 144oz of water.

I'm definitely ready to take this to the next level.

STC - C2W3D18

Summer Tracker Challenge
Beginning Date: July 16, 2007
Ending Date: October 7, 2007

Workout: UBWO

First UBWO with all of the new exercises that I chose. I have to change one exercise due to the strain it puts on my elbow, but other than that I like them all and really felt them. I went aggressive with the weights when I sat down to figure it out last night. I think there were one or two groups that I had to lower the weights almost immediately because I could tell I wouldn't make it to the end of the sets. I can feel that my shoulders and back muscles are fatigued - just tired. And my forearms are shakey.

Chest - Incline DB press (this is the one I have to change)
Pushups

Shoulder - Cuban Press
Frontal Raise

Back - Upright Row
Bent Over Row with palms turn in

Triceps - Extensions (behind head)
kickbacks

Biceps - Seated, bent over BB concentration curls
Barbell curls

There are a couple that I have to increase weights on, too. For those exercises I just added reps and sets until I hit 10. It was a good workout and seemed to go fast.

STC - C2W2D13

Summer Tracker Challenge
Beginning Date: July 16, 2007
Ending Date: October 8, 2007

Workout: UBWO

I looked at my previous weight sets last night. The weight sets that I was lifting back when we did BFL before I got pregnant with Ryann... lets just say that I was a bit embarassed at what a pansy I've been for the last 14 weeks. I increased all of my weights significantly to get into line with what I had been lifting then.

And then I wussed out this morning. I lifted those weights that I planned, but I dawdled through my whole workout and I even cut out the back exercises because I just didn't feel like doing them. I did reach my 10's, but I'm a little ashamed of myself and how wussy I allowed myself to be - even while I knew I was doing it.

I went through bodybuilding.com last night and found all new exercises for every single muscle group. I figure it is time to change things up a bit and shock my muscles out of their comfort zone. So next week I will work on figuring out what weights I should do for those exercises.

Weighed in at 131.6 this morning - another 1.5 lost. Increasing my calories to 1500/day is working, apparently. I'm pretty happy about that because I'm now very happy with how much I'm eating - although I was starving ALL.DAY yesterday - 5 minutes after a meal I would be starving again. Don't know what that was all about, but lets hope today does not repeat the same pattern because it sucked! Measurements looked good. BF% went down almost 3 points, so I'm good with what is going on.

Summer Tracker Challenge - Challenge 2

Beginning Date: July 16, 2007
Ending Date: October 8, 2007

Workout: UBWO

First half of my workout was good and I hit 10's, the second half (tris & bis) could have been better. On my next ubwo I need to really push myself a lot harder. I think I need to switch up some exercises, too.

Ate clean yesterday, but also had a beer while we were out with John and Michelle for the Chamber Bean Bag tournament. I'm not too upset or worried about it, just can't make that a regular thing. It was good, though:)

Day 81 / STC - C2W1D4

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 22, 2007

Day 81 / STC Day 4

Workout: UBWO

Had a rough night last night. A big thunderstorm knocked the power out at around 9:45 and it didn't come back on until 5am. So the air was off and it was hotter than blazes in the house - and humid. In addition, Nora cried every 20 minutes. She has such a loud cry and even though I was sleeping downstairs on the couch where it was cooler, felt like she was right next to me every time. She finally calmed down after a while, but then Georgia must have had a nightmare because she was screaming at around 4. Went back to sleep, the power kicked in at 5 and woke me up. I finally got up at about 5:55 and went and worked out. I'm proud of myself for getting up and doing it even though we had a miserable night. Today I'm going to drag - I can feel it.

Workout was good. I concentrated again on slower movements with slightly lower weights than I had typically been doing. My triceps made me want to cry:)

Am I really almost done with 12 weeks? I've been using the wrong end date this whole time - it is actually Sunday, July 22... We're going to PF Chang's this weekend and a graduation party on Sunday - going to live it up (but be careful...I've already started challenge 2). Yea!

Day 76

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 76 -

Workout: UBWO

So I had my worst BFL week of this whole challenge and my weight is down by two pounds. How in the heck did that happen? I missed two workouts and I cheated A LOT. I'm thinking that I probably do need to increase my calories to about 1400-1500 per day. I thought that perhaps doing 1350 on my HIIT days and 1500 on my weight training days would be good. When I actually sit down and figure things out, 1500 calories is a pretty difficult number to reach while eating this way. It would be very easy if I was eating junk all day, but while eating clean it is hard to hit that number.

I wonder if Cornbread needs to increase, too?

For my workout this morning I significantly lowered all of my weights and concentrated on slow reps and good form. I was still able to hit my 10's, although I don't feel as shakey as I normally do in the muscles I've worked. I think I will start this next challenge with weight sets that are lower than what I had been doing, but a bit higher than what I did today.

Day 62

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 62 -

Workout: UBWO

Had the flu on Sunday. Felt horrible. Had some pancakes in the morning because I felt fine, but then was down for the rest of the day. Had two pieces of toast around 8pm, but that was it. No water, nothing else. It was awful. I felt better - stomach-wise - yesterday when I woke up, but I had very little energy and some of the residual aches so I skipped my HIIT. I also had little desire to eat clean so I just ate what I felt like eating. I didn't go overboard like a free day, but I just had cereal for breakfast and some chips for lunch and chicken nuggets and fries for dinner with the girls. Mostly it was an issue of not having the energy to get the food together - I just wanted easy stuff.

Back to eating clean today. I had a good UBWO this morning and hit my 10's. My arms feel pretty wobbly.

I examined my diet over the weekend as compared to my weight watchers diet. I calculated the number of points that my typical day had - it was about 27-30 points! On Weight Watchers I needed to eat 20 points per day to lose weight. So I re-planned my eating. First I tried to do 20 points in the normal 6 meals, but that was hard - it was about 3 points per meal, which is kind of difficult if you consider breakfast, lunch and dinner to be real meals - like a little more than a mid-meal. So I reconfigured for 5 meals a day and that worked out much better. I'm still eating about every 3-3 1/2 hours, I'm getting a little bit bigger of a meal with an average of 4pts per meal. I'm going to try this and see how it goes. I'm hoping I won't be hungry and that I'll remember to eat when I'm supposed to. Hopefully, by combining the weight watchers and the BFL plans I will start to lean out and build muscle at the same time - which was my original goal.

I start the Summer Tracker Contest next Monday, the 16th. I have written out my goals already, but will wait until Monday to post them here.

Day 67

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 67 -

Workout: UBWO

I did not workout yesterday due to lack of sleep. I went to the fireworks with Doug, Nathan, David and Nathan's friends on Tuesday night. We missed the train home by 1 minute so we had to wait for the 11:40 train which meant we got back at 12:40. Home by 1. Sleep by 1:30. Nora and Georgia alternated waking up every 30 minutes between 2 & 4. So I would get about 15/20 minutes of sleep and then one of them would wake up. I finally got back to sleep for good at 4:30 and the girls were up at 8:30. I was exhausted and there was no chance I was going to drag my butt downstairs to do HIIT. I dragged all day and felt kind of miserable until after I took a nap at 5pm. We cleaned out the garage in the afternoon, so I'm going to just count that as my cardio for that day.

Did upper body this morning. My elbow is really, really hurting me. I think the garage really killed it. I'm going to have to figure out how to adjust for this at some point. I don't have the energy to do it right now, but I'll have to think about it this weekend because I don't want it to slow down my progress.

I signed up for the summer tracker challenge. I'm a little scared:)

Day 58

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 38 -

Workout: UBWO

Had a good workout this morning. Hit several 10's (although not all).

Did an okay job with clean eating yesterday. Cheated a little bit and I'm not sure why - perhaps vacation hangover and wanting to still be somewhat free and independent. I didn't cheat horribly, just a bit. But still every little bit counts. I will do better today as I'm getting back to my daily routine today.

Starting week 9 today - 4 more weeks left to this challenge. I want to see some incredible results by the end so I need to stick to it hard core and eat clean, hit my 10's and watch my free day so it doesn't get out of hand.

Day 48

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 48-

Workout: UBWO

A good workout today, but I didn't hit many 10s - only on chest and biceps. Measurements look good. Weight down to 134.2 - lost another .4 I think. I need to start reigning in my free days so that I'm not negating any progress I make throughout the week. However, I am encouraged by al of this - especially since we worked extra hard this week to eat extra clean and I got a handle on my calorie/day stuff. We also took pictures and I can see a difference in my waist and in my butt/hamstring area. I'm hoping that there are even more dramatic results to be seen in the coming weeks!

Day 44

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 44 -
Workout: UBWO

Good workout today, although I only hit a 10 on chest - couldn't even get the bar up for rep 12 and had to call cornbread to come down and do it for me. That sucked, but I knew it was a 10. I can't find a second exercise for my shoulders that doesn't hurt my elbow, so there was no 10 there. Used a different exercise for my second back and am still figuring out weights so no 10 for back. Triceps were questionable - probably more like a 9+. And for biceps I'm still finding the right weight for my second exercise - no 10 for that, but I feel like I hit a 10 for my last set of reps of the first exercise. Must push harder on Saturday and look for new shoulder exercise by then.

I entered my daily menu into fitday.com and figured out that I've been eating right around 1350 calories per day. I don't think thats horrible, but I should probably be closer to 1200. So after posting my menu on the tracker site and getting some suggestions, I'm going to tweak things a bit. Today I'm going to try a 5 egg white omelet instead of having 3 whites & 1 yolk. I'm going to really miss that yolk... I'm going to trade my wasa crackers for 1/2 of a ww pita, use Pam instead of olive oil to sautee my morning veggies, have brocolli instead of carrots at lunch, add a salad to dinner and try some protein pudding at night instead of a bar. I don't know about all of this - part of me wonders if I would rather just have slower progress and enjoy myself a little bit (like have my yolk:) I will have to try it for a day and see how I like it before I decide - I should probably try it for more than one day, actually. We'll see.

I'm also going to have to watch my free day a little closer - I have to get that under control so that everything that I work for during the week isn't lost in one day.

Day 39

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 39 -

Workout: UBWO

My workout was so-so this morning. I think I have tennis elbow and it limits some of the kinds of exercises I can do - seemed like it limited my second exercise (my 10) mostly. So I didn't do a complete second exercise for shoulders or back. I also changed my second exercise for biceps (because I think thats what caused it to begin with - inner bicep curls) and I didn't have nearly enough weight for what I was doing and didn't reach a 10 on that. I did hit a 10 on chest and triceps, though.

My LBWO on Tuesday was so tough that I'm feeling it more now than I did yesterday. My hamstrings are sore and tight and my lower back is sore. My body is just all around tired and exhausted, especially at the end of the night.

I successfully got through the first pool party of the summer without cheating. We had Trader Joes Chili Lime Chicken burgers, whole wheat buns and cucumber tomato salad. It was easy and good enough that I will probably bring that every week. I did not have a beer, which I really wanted, but I need to stay clean and not give in during the week and think "One will be fine" because pretty soon it turns into more.

Food does not control me.

Day 30

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 30 -

Workout: UBWO

We're beginning week 5 right now... Did not take photos or measurements over the weekend because of the holiday weekend. I gave in and made yesterday (Memorial Day) a free day also - although it wasn't quite as obnoxious as Sunday. I just allowed myself to eat when I wanted to rather than on schedule and to have a few cheetos and a cookie here and there. Nothing major, but didn't stay on plan, either. I started out doing well, but we were working in the bedroom and it just wasn't going to happen. I need my routine - thats all there is to it.

I told Cornbread yesterday that if I don't see any changes at the end of these 12 weeks - not necessarily in the weight number, but SEE changes in my photos - I'm going back to Weight Watchers. I'll continue to do the workouts the same way and I'll try to incorporate the diet as much as possible, but I am beginning to freak out a little bit, truthfully. I keep telling myself that I have to have faith that this is going to work... I just didn't want to be this big fat lard for the summer, but oh well - its not as if things would have been a whole lot different if I wasn't doing this.

All I know is that I don't want to be someone who is "trying to lose weight" for the rest of my life. I want to either get down to the weight/body that I desire and stay there or be happy with how I am. I see so many women who have been "trying to lose weight" for 20 years and it is just a constant struggle and always a part of their lives. I would like to get to a point where I am just exercising to maintain and really seeing food as fuel and as a necessary part of my daily life - rather than living for eating. I'm sick of being controlled by food... and that is what I like about BFL - I don't feel controlled by food. On my free days, I do... but I can't give up my free days. It is such a hard balance to strike. I'm going to have to come on here every day to give myself a pep talk about food = fuel, rather than my god-given right to eat whatever I want and to give into my sugar cravings.

Thursday, May 24, 2007

Day 25

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 25 -

Workout: UBWO

Changed some of my exercises around. I think I need to increase some of my weights and I'll be good. My arms are definitely sore and tired after working out this morning - and a bit trembly.

I was thinking about how I've read that this process is 80% diet and only 20% workout. Thats kind of discouraging to me because I never feel confident that I'm eating correctly. I'm never confident that my portions are appropriate or that I haven't added something to my food that may mess the whole thing up. You're supposed to measure portions based on your open palm (minus fingers) for protein and your fist for carbs... okay, so that would probably be one egg for me - but I'm eating 1 yolk and 3 whites. Am I eating way too much? I would never be satisfied or filled up on just one egg with my portion of carbs (oatmeal). What about my tuna for lunch? I've been eating a whole 6oz can - is this too much? So what am I supposed to do? Eat half and put the other half away and smell up the fridge? (I actually bought some 3 oz cans last night). What about the carbs to go with it? I've been eating the Wasa crackers - 2 of them. Too much? Do I break 1/4 of one off? How do I know? And then there is dinner and the shakes and bars... Shakes and bars are in preportioned containers - are they too much for me? Each of them are 180 calories and I add nothing to them... And dinners have been a meal from the EFL cookbook - and they're hard to portion out, too.

I saw on the BFL website that in order to lose fat and gain muscle I should be eating 1620 calories a day. I really, really do not want to start counting calories. That sounds miserable to me. I'm just not confident that I'm eating right - and I don't know how to get it right. Its very frustrating.

Day 20

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 20 -

Workout: UBWO

Not much to say on this today. I need to continue to eat clean until after church - it is going to be hard since my in-laws are going to be in town. I find that getting all of my meals in on Saturdays is difficult. I also find it an easy time to excuse poor eating. I need to stay on track today and make sure I don't overdo it over the weekend. I need to remember that I'm not obligated to eat like a hog on my free day, but that it is the one day that I don't have to be worried about what I eat. We are having pizza and ice cream cake for Ryann's birthday tonight and then are going to a birthday luncheon for Uncle Floyd tomorrow. I don't have to cram in a bunch of cookies and candies in addition to that - although it is okay to have one here and there, it is not okay to make decisions to get them just because I can and I won't be able to tomorrow.

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Day 16

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 16 -

UBWO this morning. I'm changing my exercises up. I'm trying to find the exercises that will work more than one muscle per exercise. But that means that I have to figure out the appropriate weights for each exercise. On a couple I was too light in my guesses, on a few others I was too heavy. I'll get it figured out - trial and error, I suppose.

Felt better getting back on the eating plan yesterday. The tuna experiment is still going... I'm not going to say that I love it or enjoy it, but I don't hate it. I have yet to find the best combination of stuff to add. Yesterday I added peppers and onions, some mustard and some bbq sauce... peppers = not good, but the onions were.

Thursday, May 10, 2007

Day 11

Beginning Date - April 30, 2007
Ending Date - July 20, 2007

Day 11 -

Did my UBWO this morning and hit some 10's. My arms are like jelly right now. I'm going to switch up my exercises next week as I'm not convinced that the little pull down dealy is the most effective way to do some of these. I also read on the tracker forum that multi-muscle exercises are better than single - so instead of doing bench press for my main chest exercise, I should do butterflies and then bench press. Its also nice to change things up a bit once in a while.

Other than that, things are going well. I was telling Cornbread last night that my sugar cravings are gone - I haven't touched or wanted to touch a piece of chocolate since the second free day. I enjoy a cookie here and there on free day, but I'm not feeling like they are staring at me every time I open the cupboard anymore. When I've done weight watchers in the past I have needed to have a couple of m&m's every day - just 5 and thats it - but I have not needed that at all through this. This is a good thing - especially since there are two pieces of cheesecake sitting in my refrigerator right now! They aren't tempting me,which is amazing!

Saturday, May 5, 2007

Day 6

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 6 -

Did my UBWO this morning. Increased my weights on a couple of groups, am still trying to figure out the right weight sets for these new exercises - back and triceps. Am feeling like I'm working hard - I'll never know if I'm really hitting 10's, but I'm working hard so I'm good with that.

Last night we had a Trader Joe's Cabernet pot roast. I'm not sure if it would be considered a legal/approved BFL cut of beef... It was very good and I was proud of myself for eating the correct portion size rather than eating as much as I wanted. Of course it helps when the roast is small and Nora eats more of it than I do:)

We took our pictures last night. I'm not totally embarassed by what I saw. I am short and squatty - thats all there is to it. I'm thankful, at least that I'm fat all over and I don't have areas that are much bigger than others - like my stomach doesn't stick out, my hips don't stick out, my bum isn't falling out of the bottom of my swimsuit etc. I'm just big all over - arms, torso, hips, butt, thighs, calves, etc. everything except my head which looks tremendously small in the picture:) I want to continue to take photos - at least every 4 weeks if not more often, but I suspect that we'd see more of a change if we did every 4 weeks rather than every week. Its just a matter of remembering to do it... I want to see improvement. I'm putting my faith in the program that if I do it correctly, I WILL see improvement and seeing that improvement with give me motivation to go on.

I should really sit down and write out some goals. I'll have to do that tomorrow.

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Day 2

Beginning Date: April 30, 2007
Ending Date: July 20, 2007

Day 2 -

I survived the tuna yesterday! And the smaller portions and changed menu. I noticed in the afternoon that I wasn't starving like I had anticipated. It feels good to be on the right track and to know what I need to do. There are some foods in my life that are just dangerous and cheese is one of them... I like it so much that I find ways to add it to everything, or if a portion size is 2 oz I think, "Oh 2 1/2 oz isn't going to be THAT bad" and pretty soon I'm eating 3 oz of cheese. Anyway, its probably just best for cheese to be a free day food for me:)

I made the taco pasta salad for dinner last night and kept my portion sizes to my fist and my palm. I also added lots of lettuce and tomatoes and onions to fill up my plate. That helped a lot. I felt like I got enough food, but I wasn't hungry or stuffed afterwards. That was good. Tonight I will be making the oriental chicken salad. We haven't had that one yet, but I'm looking forward to it. The key for me will be keeping the chow mein noodles to the bare minimum (I love them).

I did my UBWO this morning. We got a new weight bench and it allows for some different exercises so I'm working on figuring out my weight sets for those. I was a little frustrated this morning in trying to figure out how to work things, but I think I have the hang of it. I'm thinking, though, that free weights seem to be a better option - I seem to do a better job of fatiguing my muscles and going to failure with the free weights. I will try these exercises again, though, and then decide after that.
