Catchup since last Wednesday
Thursday - KenPoX
I switched out the normally scheduled yoga and did KenpoX instead. I love Kenpo. Its fun and it goes super quick.
Friday - Back & Legs
I enjoy back & legs, but I feel like I lost some strength during the recovery week because I wasn't able to do as many pullups as previous times. I so rarely feel like my legs get a really decent workout, and this workout does it.
Saturday - stairs
I did not run on Friday because I knew I was doing the stairs the next day.
The Tieri's came for the weekend and I brought Jason to the stairs on Saturday morning. It was awesome - I love the stairs! Its such an awesome workout and its really different. I want to incorporate it in some more, just not sure how. This was the first time I've done the stairs with someone and it was fun to talk while we did it. And it was fun to kick his butt on the last set of running :)
Today - Monday - P90x Shoulders/Triceps/Shoulders
Ugh, this is so hard! There are so many slow and weird pushups in this workout, my arms are still really, really tired and it has been almost 6 hours since I did the workout. I also ran for 30:00 / 2.75 miles right afterward. My heart rate was around 174 at a pace of 5.5 or 10:54/mile. I'm not thrilled with slowing down my pace so much, but I had to remind myself that I was running in order to condition my cardiovascular system, not as a training or distance thing.
Ate a lot of garbage food this weekend - pizza, candy, chicken wings, cake. My weight WAS down to 126.6 on Saturday, but this morning was back up to 128.0, which is actually not too bad given how much junk I ate. I'm kind of thinking about counting calories instead of doing weight watchers points. Jason said that it works really well for him. I don't know why it is so different for me and why I hate the calories vs. doing the points. Maybe I could do it without having to enter everything into the computer - I could keep a running total on paper, like I do with points. Maybe that would work.

Catchup for the last 3 days...
Wednesday
Workout: P90x KenpoX
Did this workout in the morning with Dave and it will never, ever happen again! I've already told him this:) He is so out of sync with Tony and the crew and I could see it out of the corner of my eye and I.can't.stand.it!!! He comes by his rhythm naturally. He is, after all, his mother and father's son. I love him, but I cannot do this workout with him ever again, unless he get super awesome at it in the next 2 months! We had a good laugh over this last night.
Thursday
Workout: run 3 miles at a 10:00/mile pace
Was supposed to do YogaX, but the alarms never went off. I wasn't planning to do Yoga anyway - I had already decided to try to run again. Since I didn't wake up early enough, I ran at 5pm. It wasn't a whole lot better than Monday. My heart rate was still mid-180's. I gutted it out to 15:00 solid minutes of running before taking a 2:00 walking break. It really becomes much more of a mental battle... running at that high of a heart rate is like a normal person sprinting as fast as they can for 15 straight minutes. Its impossible to sustain, but mentally I battle through it. It hurts... nothing really HURTS - like my lungs aren't burning, my legs feel totally fine, nothing hurts, it is just really, really painful to try to sustain running at that high of a heart rate. I need to keep adding the running so I can condition myself back to a more comfortable place. Still frustrated about this, but I want to be able to run, so I'm going to have to have a couple of days/week of 2-a-days. We'll see how that works out.
Friday -
Workout: Core Synergistics
This was much better than the other day when I did it the first time. I knew what the exercises were and I knew how to do them. I performed them better, but it wasn't as if it was easier. This is just a tough, tough workout. Can't say I'm sad to see it omitted from the rotation next week!
Weight on Friday: 127.4
Again, happy with a 1lb loss from last week. This is just how it goes - I certainly wish it were 4lbs/week, but thats just not going to happen:) My clothes feel better and thats most important. I still believe I'm retaining a significant amount of water because I'm having so much trouble with my hands during the night. Waking up several times a night with a completely numb right hand.

Workout: Biggest Loser Cardio Max dvd
Time: 30:00
Weight: 124.4
I need to know why Bob Harper has a personal vendetta against me and why he is trying to destroy my body. Holy schmoly these workouts kick my butt.
This one and the one I did yesterday (bootcamp) both heavily emphasize exercises that get your heart rate up & work large muscles at the same time. So there are a whole lot of squats and lunges. My hamstrings are sore! And while I'm doing it, I feel like I'm breathing so loud that I could wake up the girls! There is absolutely no rhythm to my breathing like there is with running, it is just huffing.
I have been eating well, but have been under on my calories for the past couple of days. I'm not too upset about that as I'll tend to go over on Saturday/Sunday. Happy to see my weight stay consistent in the 124's and hope to see it drop into the 123's next week - I feel like it might finally happen now that I've stopped running.

Workout: Tae Bo
Time: 25:00
Weight: 125.6
Last week was an epic fail in terms of working out. Actually, I think I worked out 3 days, but ended the week with a big goose egg. The tendon around my right knee is hurting a lot and I felt like I had strained my hamstrings. I was pretty much a mess, so I opted to stay in bed and rest. And then, because I'm brilliant, I ate garbage all weekend long. Like cookies, chocolate, M&Ms, parmesan bread sticks, chicken nuggets, french fries and a frostry. Pretty much if it was healthy, it wasn't going into my body. Horrifying how I lose self control so easily and excuse myself from getting back on track until Monday.
Saturday I really didn't miss running 10 miles, but I did miss burning the 1000 calories and I missed that pride that I did something ridiculously hard (for me). I'm realizing that I have a completely different self-confidence when I've run, than when I'm taking time off. I feel strong and confident and accomplished when I've run. When I haven't, I struggle to feel good about myself. I need to get over that.
Last week I ordered 3 Biggest Loser dvd's - Boot Camp, 30 Day Shred, & Cardio Max. I figure if Jillian Michaels can kick my butt in yoga for 30 minutes, she most certainly will kick my butt in cardio. I can't wait - because I need something hard core.
I did the getting started workout on my Tae Bo Get Ripped dvd. After futzing around with different Tae Bo dvd's this morning, I finally found the one that I used to feel was the most effective. It seems contradictory that the getting started workout should be the best workout, rather than the two advanced workouts, but it definitely is. I did one of the advanced workouts last week and hardly felt like I raised my heart rate. I started another one this morning and remembered that it was crap. With the getting started workout I'm definitely raising my heart rate a lot higher than the others. So I'll do that until I get my BL dvds.
I'm refocusing my efforts on my eating. I've joined myfitnesspal.com (which is a whole heck of a lot more user friendly than spark people) and I'm going to start tracking my food. My biggest frustration is that because of my size, I'm only supposed to have 1200 calories/day (in order to lose LESS THAN 1 pound/week). Thats what? Like an apple & a salad? Ridiculous. I'm an eater - I can put the food down and not feel hungry afterward. I need to stick with this and get myself disciplined again. I think not running will help me with that because I won't have a constant built in excuse to eat more. I'm going to try to get a little more protein in my day because it is something that I really lack... so tuna will now be my best friend.
I just want to lose these last 5-10 pounds that I've struggled to get off while training for races. I'm comfortable at 125, but I've been hovering between 125 & 127 for a long time. I would lOVE to get to 115, but never have and am never committed to doing what it takes to get there. Ideally, if I could hover between 118-123, I'd be happy.

Workout: 3 miles at 2% incline
p90x Abripper
Time: 38:57
Pace: 9:39
Weight: 129.0
After spending a great deal of time complaining to Jason last night about how badly I suck at running, I was determined to get through this run and do it well. I decided to use the mantra "Conquer it!" as I ran. It helped. It also helped that it was only 3 miles :) However, I always feel like I settle in right at that point...
Next week, I may make a very concerted effort to slow my pace down by quite a bit to try to get back some confidence. I may run at 10:30 and see what my heart rate is with that. I know that last year when I was training for Indy, by the end I would have a heart rate of 165 bpm while I was running, so I know it will get better as I go, but I haven't taken THAT much time off to make this big of a difference. It will get better and I need to stop complaining, stop focusing on how miserable I feel while I'm running and start focusing on something better. I'm going to try to figure that out today.
Abripper was good this morning. I really didn't feel like doing it, but its only 15 minutes and I didn't want to give in - because if I gave in this time, then I'd feel it was okay to give in other times and pretty soon I wouldn't be doing it anymore. I need to work my core and get it stronger - for my running, yes, but mostly for my back. I've never consistently worked my core, so this is new and I want to keep with it.
Still hungry all.the.time. I hate counting calories. I keep telling myself that every pound I lose will make running even easier, so its worth it.

Workout: Tempo run - 4 miles total
Incline: 2%
Pace: 9:30 (average)
Weight: 128.4
Run was 1 mile warm up (at 10:00) 2 mile tempo (at 9:15) and 1 mile cool down (at 10:00 and gradual decrease of incline).
I'm still sucking wind the entire time. Not sure why I can't settle in and get into a groove. I think I need to get back outside - I was thinking in the shower that I really want to start to love running again. There are probably a lot of things I need to do to make that happen - go outside, stop caring about my time and pace, stop caring about my mileage, etc. Basically, let it go. But not sure I can do that and train for a race at the same time. If we remain snow-less next week, I'm going to try to get outside for at least one run.
Ate just shy of 1500 calories yesterday. Went out for lunch with Dave, Carol & Jan Gewont to Mimi's Cafe. I stuck with an item on their fit and fresh menu which listed the calories, so that was easy to track. I'm pretty hungry throughout the day, but what I miss the most is my treat with my coffee in the morning. I'm having biscotti on Sunday morning and I can't wait. Glad to see a 1lb loss every day, though - that is nice motivation:)

Workout: 4 miles
p90x abripper
Time: 38:27
Incline: 2%
Weight: 129.4
Calories: 1510
The run was rough again today, but I mentally gutted through it better than I did on Monday. Today I could tell my heart rate was high (it was 180 bpm halfway through) and my legs were tired. I wish I could figure out why I'm struggling so much - I'm going to chalk it up to the extra 5 lbs on my body right now.
Abs was torturous again this morning. I'm not sure that they will ever NOT be torturous. I kept thinking - its only 15 minutes. By the end of the year, I am going to complete every one of the 340 reps on that video.
I hate dieting/counting calories. I hate how hungry I am throughout the day. But I must pay the penalty for my lack of discipline in December... and I needed some retraining anyway.

Workout: P90xYoga
Time: 1:15
Weight: 130.6
Yoga is better every time I do it. It is haaaarrd and I sweat a lot in the first 45 minutes, but I love it and am SO happy that I'm doing it. Yoga has been a goal of mine for a couple of years.
Started counting calories yesterday. I miss my morning coffee treat. It always takes a week or two for me to stop being hungry, which I hate, but I'll get there. I'm determined to get under 120 this time. I've been at 119 for about 24 hours in the last 8 years. I hovered around 124 for most of 2010, which is a good, comfortable weight for me. BUT, I would LIKE to be under 120... not entirely sure I can sustain that, though, because I like food too much. I will get there by my birthday.

Workout: 3.17 miles + shoulders, biceps, triceps
Time: no clue
Weight: 125.0
Two Years Ago
Ran with the dog this morning. I'm pretty much ready to put an end to that idea. I would LOVE to have him as a running partner, but he is so bad and it is so hard for me. He wants to stop all.the.time and pulls back on me, which interrupts my rhythm. I felt like I never got into a good groove - running or breathing - because every time I almost did, he would yank back on me and try to stop me. I gave him some extra walking time to go potty and to sniff, both before we started running and in the middle of the run, but it didn't help a whole lot.
He ran 7.3 miles with Dave yesterday, so maybe that had something to do with it, but I don't think so. I think he is just a jerk and ticked because I don't run fast enough for him. I'm not sure if I'll try to go with him again or not... will need to think about that some more.
Came home and did some weights in the basement. Nothing major because I didn't feel like taking the time to change the weights in between exercises. So I did a set of each exercise immediately following the other and then took a breathing rest in between super sets.
It was like this: (8lbs)
1 superset = 10 frontal raise (both arms together), 10 bicep curls (both arms together), 10 tricep kickbacks (each arm individually)
I did 3 supersets. I also did one set of 10 on the ab roller just to see if I could do it. I'm going to start incorporating that some more.
I would like to get back into regular weight training and have put together a schedule. Today was my start.

Workout: 3.7 miles
Time: 34:32
Pace: 9:18
Weight: 128.0
Two years Ago
Not sure where I'm at in terms of what to do next after the race, but I know that I don't want to take too much time off. I ran home from Ryann's soccer game tonight and was fine. Jason was shocked that I ran already since Saturday, but really, I felt so great after the race - not really tired, not really sore, not super hungry, just really, really good. Best I've ever felt after a long run, so why not run already on Monday?
I'm going to keep my mileage down for now as I try to focus my energy on losing these pounds rather than on training for a race. I did well with points and did well with keeping track of them. I know that 128 is high due to water retention, since I weighed 125.? after I ran at 6:30pm, so I'm not concerned that my weight is THAT high, but I would like to get down near 120. At some point I need to recognize that after 8 years of making my goal 115 and never having gotten below 119 maybe its just not possible :) So 120 is my goal and I'm going to need to really put a lot of energy into it because this is the worst time of year - halloween, thanksgiving, christmas.
Thinking about doing a 5k on Thanksgiving up in Grand Rapids, then training will begin for the 5/3 Bank River Bank Run - 15 miles. May 14, 2011. It will be good to have something to train for during the holidays.
Haven't had a chance to think about what I want to do before then, however, I do know that I need to change my thinking from training to simply working out. I need to do heavier lifting with fewer reps, make sure I'm doing 30-45 minutes of cardio on my non lifting days and 20 minutes of warm up/light cardio on my lifting days. Drinking water is a must - I did okay on that yesterday. My face has been so dry since the race - it hurt so badly after I finished and I know it is dry because I'm not drinking enough water. I need to increase my vegetables and consider cutting sugar out completely - that needs some thinking. At any rate, my mindset needs to change for a while as my goal has changed for now.

Workout: 6.3 miles on the treadmill
Weight: who knows - 180?
Pace: 6.3 mph 0% incline
Two Years Ago
After having taken a week off, I got back to it this morning. I had intended to run outside, however when I woke up I heard and saw swirling winds in the trees. There was no way I was running in that. Its pretty crappy out anyway... wet, windy, dreary. The run was good. I had a book, which helped. I also have a whole bunch of new music - most of it is probably too fast for me, but I enjoyed listening to it.
I unintentionally took all of last week off. I woke up Monday and morning and just didn't feel like running. It wasn't that I was too tired or the weather was bad - I just didn't feel like doing it. And that feeling continued throughout the week. I intended to run 11 1/2 on Saturday, but we had a sleepover and the girls didn't go to sleep until after 12:30 and I, for some reason, woke up several times throughout the night. I was slightly bummed that I didn't get that long run in, but its okay.
I'm pretty fed up with my weight. Its been as high as 128.8, but I know some of it is due to water retention based on the fact that I gain and lose 2-3 pounds over night AND my hands, right elbow and right shoulder are falling asleep at night. Its pretty bad right now... I'm painting the kitchen and the cabinets so the addition motion in my wrist is contributing to the numbness. Drinking a lot of water usually helps that, too, but I haven't taken the time to do it. I need to get back to a good hydration level and start counting some points, I guess. I don't want to be this weight (whatever it is) on our anniversary.

Mon Workout: 6.43 miles
Time: 1:02:46
Pace: 9:45?
Weight: 128.0
Ran outside and felt really good. I made a very conscious effort to tell myself that I felt good rather than miserable and I think it helped. The lower humidity also helped - I have to believe that the high humidity really affects me on those long runs. I ran the whole thing with only one short walking break that I had given myself permission to take early on (as a goal... I actually had given myself permission to walk up one of the worst hills, but then ended up running up that hill and walking to recover afterward). This was a major accomplishment for me, since my running has been so sub-par lately and filled with a lot of walking breaks. The run today - which was supposed to be 6 miles - was a big confidence booster... so much so that I added some to it while I was running, just because I felt good.
I also made myself a protein smoothie afterward as a recovery drink. I think that helps and I'm going to do that after every run from now on.
Tue Workout: 25:00 cross training + upper body
Weight: 126.0
I cut 5 minutes off of the cross training and cut out a couple of muscles in the strength training due to time (should have been 30:00 cross). I really need to get to the gym earlier than I did if I want to have any quiet time afterward / before the girls get up for school.
The workout was so-so. I did the pre-cor machine next to carissa, so I didn't hit it hard, but my heart rate was in the 120's, which is acceptable. Strength training was good, even if I omitted biceps and chest. The exercises I did, I did well and I added 50 reps of the ab machine.
Weight: Now that school has begun I am officially watching what I eat and trying to lose the 3-5 pounds that I've gained. I have been dutifully drinking water throughout the day and have cut out my devotion/coffee treat, which always starts out with good intentions, but ends up going overboard. That is the biggest thing I miss when I watch what I eat - that treat with my devotions and coffee, but it gets out of hand and I need to cut it. I haven't made any rules for myself, just focus on eating less and eating better and making sure I have that recovery drink after my runs.

Workout: 30:00 cross training (stationary bike) + strength
Weight: 127.0 (what?!)
I hate cross training. It seems so pointless as it never seems like as good of a workout as running. I guess its a good thing to switch it up here and there, but I still hate it. A lot. And I really have to work hard to get to the gym to do it.
I have switched to lower weights with higher reps while I'm training, but I'm still nearing failure on most things.
I don't think that 127 is an accurate weight - I believe that is water retention. However, I do need to start thinking a little more about diet. I would still love to get to 115, but it will take a lot of motivation and hard work. I'm not sure its possible to do while I'm training, but I need to put some actual thought into this. I have not been eating well for quite some time - I don't eat horribly, but I haven't been eating as well as I should be. I think a lot has to do with it being summer and having no desire to go to the grocery store with the three kids - I can't focus or think about what I'm buying while I'm there with them. And I haven't had enough focus to put together menus or grocery lists, either, while I'm home. This summer, while busy and fun, has made me feel like my mind is in a complete fog. And I don't like that at all. 2 1/2 weeks until school begins and then I feel like I'll be able to think again.
Next year, I need to do something before school ends to prepare for this aspect of summer. I should be able to put together some general meal plans and grocery lists to get me through the summer - need to remember to do that, because this sucks.

Workout: 3.5 miles
Weight: 127.0
Once again my weight is fluctuating like crazy due to water retention. Although after spending a weekend with my in-laws, there might be a little more than water retention going on - but not THAT much more.
Ran 3.5 on the treadmill this morning because I didn't have time for much more than that. It wasn't very easy and I'm not sure why that is. I know it is partly due to being dehydrated - I could feel it in my mouth that I was pretty dehydrated. I'm sure that after eating all of the crap that I ate this weekend, it affected my running and how my body felt. Thats okay - I gave myself the weekend to be crazy and now I'm starting Weight Watchers with a concerted effort.
We have our summer regional at Blue Harbor resort in Sheboyagan, WI over the weekend of June 17-20th. It is a water park and it will be a blast. It will also be nearly impossible to eat incredibly healthy as many of the meals are hotel buffets (think pasta, burgers, lots of butter, eggs, cheese, etc. etc.) So I am committing to eating well beginning today all the way to the 17th. I am giving up sugar today and am going to start counting points and measuring my food. I'm also going to make huge efforts to drink a gallon of water every day. I have my gallon of water sitting out on the counter and need to remember to fill up and drink often. My goal is to have it gone by the end of the day.
I don't have a specific weight goal in mind for the 17th, but I would like to at least have a consistent weight by then. Not 127 in the morning and 121 in the evening and 124 two days later and 127 three days later. That means I need to be consistent with my water and my eating. Usually when I do weight watchers I stick with my 18 points during the day and don't eat my activity points, but then don't count points on the weekend. I'm not sure I can do that if I'm running more than 3 miles at a time.
Here we go!

Workout: 5.5 miles (treadmill) - turned into intervals at the end
Time: 52:00
Pace: averaged 9.27/mile
Weight: very interesting question:)
I actually got up to run yesterday morning, but ended up going back to sleep on the couch. My carpal tunnel has been bothering me quite badly since shoveling all of the dirt into the garden a week ago and my forearm and hand were feeling crappy and I decided I just didn't feel like going. I really had no time to make it up that day because my best friend was coming over for the day. I decided at 7:30pm to hit the treadmill while the girls were watching So You Think You Can Dance.
I really only intended to run about 3 miles because of the time and because I had hardly eaten anything during the day and hadn't eaten dinner yet, but 3 turned into 4, which turned into 5, which turned into 6... but the girls needed me for something so I stopped short at 5.5. First 3.5 miles I ran at 6.4, which is 9:30 pace, for the last 2 I increased my speed by .1 with every minute, until I reached 7.0mph, then I decreased my speed by .1 every 30 seconds until I got back to 6.4 and then decreased every minute. I think I ended at 5.8.
I also ran 6 miles on the treadmill on Tuesday afternoon - I have figured out a way to read my book while running and it makes it go so much quicker. The weather has also been terribly hot and humid, which is why I ended up on the treadmill so much in the last week.
Now for my weight... yesterday was such a good example of what water retention does in my body. I have not been drinking enough water - I know this based on how much I have been drinking, but also by how badly my carpel tunnel is bothering me (CTS is inflammation of the nerves in the wrist... dehydration = water retention = inflammation = numbness and pain). I've been intending to drink a gallon of water every day this week, but it never happened - and never even got close. But with Kim here yesterday I literally sat at the table and drank water all day. Not sure how much I drank, but it was nearly a gallon.
Yesterday morning I weighed myself at my normal time - when I woke up, after I went to the bathroom, with no clothes on. I weighed 127.0, which shocked me as thats the highest I've been since Christmas and I haven't been eating badly at all. I weighed myself again after I got done running and I was 121.6. I was 121.6 again this morning (Friday) so it wasn't just all of the sweating. So apparently I lost 5.4 pounds in 12 hours:) I feel like I spend a lot of time chalking up my weight fluctuations to water retention and at least my next door neighbor thinks I'm crazy... but I've been paying attention to my body for so long, I know this is how it goes.
Skipped my workout today. Will decide how many to run tomorrow - I have the morning to myself!

Workout: 2 mile warm up run + lower body & Abs
Weight: 126.4
Workout was fine. Nothing exciting. Lifting heavy again and it feels kind of good.
I came home from the gym and immediately cancelled my WW membership. I was thinking it over at the gym... I'm comfortable with my weight, with the number. I've been fluctuating a lot over the last several months, but I'm okay with it. I feel good, I look good, my clothes fit. I joined WW again in order to get a better handle and discipline on my eating. I realized this morning, though, that I know how to eat healthy - I just need to do it. I need to be more disciplined myself. What I don't need is the obsession about points and how many I'm eating at any given meal or any given snack. I don't need to do that right now and I don't want that in my life... that aspect of dieting is absolute clutter for me at this point. It works - definitely works, but until I'm 10 pounds heavier, I don't have the motivation to add that clutter back into my life. For the little bit that I'd like to lose, I can do it by tightening up my diet on my own. And if I don't lose that little bit, I'm still okay.
This all came to me because I made a good and quite healthy dinner last night: Turkey meatloaf and steamed dirty broccoli. It was good. It was healthy. And I felt guilty about eating it because it was more points than I wanted to eat at dinner. What is that? That is the clutter that I need to be rid of. I need to focus more on eating plant first and eliminating the junky food that has crept into my diet and into our home... chips, animal crackers, ice cream, etc. THAT is what I need to change.

Workout: 8.55 miles
Time: 1:29:08
Pace: 10:25
Weight: 122.6
It has been incredibly windy for the last few days. Very high wind gusts going in all directions. I was very scared to do my run today and actually asked Cornbread if I could run in the morning instead of the afternoon (we would switch times) so I'd have more likelihood of calmer weather. It rained sideways last night. Terrible! When I went out this morning, though, it was pretty calm. The wind picked up a little bit into my run, but it wasn't terrible and by the time it picked up I didn't have much longer to go in the direction that was against it.
I wanted to do 8 - 8 1/2 miles today as we are tapering, but I wanted to keep a pretty long run in there. I had a route planned out before I left, but 2 1/2 miles into it I decided I didn't want to do that route and changed my plans - but I didn't have another 8 1/2 mile route in mind that I could do from where I was at. So I basically meandered through the neighborhood adding some streets here and there. I ended up with an 8.55 mile route by sheer luck. I probably would have done better and enjoyed my originally planned route, but it didn't have any drinking fountains so I didn't want to do it. I should have done it, though.
I could tell I was running a pretty fast pace again and would consciously try to slow myself down, but it was hard. I ended up with a 10:25 pace, but I made several walking breaks in the last 3 miles. Not intentionally... all of the sudden I would find myself stopped and walking and would get mad at myself! Especially if I was running against the wind. I was surprised that my pace ended up being around my normal run-outside pace of 10:20. With the amount of walking I did, I figured I would have up near 11:00 or higher. I was very pleased with the 10:25.
My weight has come down and has stayed down for 3 days straight. I think I've done a better job of drinking water, but I have also been eating more (and running less). I really think that I've been in starvation mode for a while - not eating enough. If I'm going to run another race in the fall, I'm going to have to be a lot more intentional about my nutrition... I just hate figuring that all out.
As of today, I hate the idea of running 13.1 miles. I think doing a long run first thing in the morning is a bad idea. I remember running 8 1/2 miles the day after we got back from Colorado and feeling pretty good about it. Not as much the case today. That was in the afternoon - this was in the morning. I'm sure it will be fine.

Planned workout: 3 miles
Actual workout: 3.64 miles
Time: 35:15
Pace: 9:44
Weight: 126.8
I am still astonished by my pace. I have never run under 10:15 outside. Never. And really, I took a full minute stop at the drinking fountain, so my running pace was actually 9:28, which really amazes me. Really.
I'm so proud of myself. My confidence was waining to be sure. I really felt like I sucked even more every time I went out. So to go out and run that fast just astonishes me and moves me forward in a huge way.
I'm going to get through this race and then probably join Weight Watchers again. I know my true weight is not as high as 126.8 - that was my first thing in the morning weight, but I weighed myself after I ran and I was 124.0 - however, I would still like to lose 5-8 pounds and I think I need some discipline training again. I need to lower my mileage and start adding the diet discipline back in and get a clear idea of how much to eat. I think that for the most part I don't eat enough calories, but I need some help figuring it out... especially as I increase my mileage again in the middle of the summer when I start training again.
I think we're going to run the half marathon in Holland, MI at the end of September. Its super cheap ($30) so you can't beat that, but it also sounds like a beautiful course - 4 miles along Lake Macatawa, ending in Holland State Park. It will be a good time of year, my parents can watch the girls, we can meet up with some friends, etc. Just sounds like a good one to do and I'm looking forward to it. I think we have 20 weeks between the Indy and the Holland, so training would begin in mid June or in July depending on what kind of mileage I'm doing before then.

Workout: 20:00 cross + weight training
Weight: 125.8
Glad to see my weight is down at least a little bit from yesterday. Hoping this will be a trend:)
Did 20 minutes on the upright bike this morning for my cross. On the way to the gym I decided that I hate the eliptical that much... that I couldn't even bear to do 20 minutes on it this morning. Heart rate was not great - 120's for the whole workout. But I needed a bit of an easier workout this morning.
My right quad is quite sore from yesterday's run. My abs are also sore. Pretty obvious to me that I haven't run in a while. However, I have NO calf pain or soreness today, which definitely excites me! I'm going to ice it again today and need to remember to ice my ankle, too. I don't think my ankle will ever be pain-free.

Planned Workout: 6 miles
Actual: 6.548 miles
Time: 1:07:56
Pace: 10:22
Weight: 127.2
First time running since I decided to rest my calf. I was a bit nervous - not because I didn't think I could do 6 miles after so long, but because I worried that even though I have not had calf pain in a week I would immediately feel pain once I started to run. I didn't and I'm so happy! Problem is, though, that I've lost a bit of fitness in the meantime and I don't have a whole lot of time to build it back up before the race. I've missed to long runs and 2 training runs since resting - a total of 33 miles. I've also lost a bit of mental toughness, too, since my last long run was so horrible. But I made it and thats what counts.
I did take 2 or 3 short walking breaks on the way back - more due to mental lapse than anything else. It is very, very hilly around here and my route is incredibly hilly - not inclines... HILLS. So mentally I have to dig deep to get to the top of the hills on the way home and I just wasn't fully there today. I'll get there.
I opted to run this afternoon instead of this morning because it was 33 degrees this morning and 54 degrees and sunny this afternoon. I'm going to do my best to stay off of the treadmill from now on. I want to train on the hills and in the wind (again with the wind today, but not nearly as bad).
Less than 3 weeks until the race. My goal is to finish it and to run the entire thing, with the exception of water stops. I am going to find a fall half marathon and really train for that one - like do all of the speed work and interval work along with the mileage. I'm hoping that some of my friends from high school will join me, but not sure how that will turn out - would be a blast to get together for something like that so we'll see.
I'm just so happy that my calf doesn't hurt at all. I'm going to ice it this afternoon as a precaution.
And my weight... not sure what to think or do about that. I haven't been eating poorly or overeating at all. I feel like I'm one of those people that looks at food and gains 2 lbs. I'm struggling with caring about it and being happy with who I am... but I wonder: at what point do I start to worry about it then? I'm hitting the water hard today and hopefully it will decrease slightly tomorrow morning. I also know that not being able to run has a huge affect on how I feel about myself and my body. I feel so strong and confident when I'm running and feel much more insecure when I'm not able to run. So hopefully all of this will come together now that I can run again.
